Reading about my brother Richard's recent ankle surgery reminded me of some current foot issues that have been and are going on in our family. About a month ago, Craig traveled with his team to a water polo tournament in Madras. When it was time for warm-ups, Craig hopped into the pool feet first without realizing he was entering a very shallow end. He hurt the side of his foot enough to cause tears, swelling, and sitting the bench the first game. After icing & elevating it for a couple of hours, he was able to play a little in 2 later games. The foot barely bruised and he made a quick and full recovery.
About the same time, Cassie's foot started acting up from track. She spent the last 3 weeks of track doing the hot/cold water treatment after practice and went to bed with the ice pack wrapped around the top of her foot. The last week before districts, she didn't even run; she rode the stationary bike for practice. Now that she's back in the water full-time, her foot has recovered nicely.
A little over 2 weeks ago, Colin was running around at the neighborhood park and somehow twisted his ankle. It was swollen for a few days and he hobbled for over a week. He went to a friend's house from church one day and Craig went over to pick him up when we got home. This is how Craig transported Colin with the bum ankle for 2 blocks. Pretty creative! Colin's ankle has not quite healed the way we had hoped. He keeps re-twisting it and it is still painful to the touch. So, unfortunately he may need a trip to the doctor.
