Ft. Vancouver

Craig's 4th grade class has been studying the Oregon Trail.

I was able to tag along on the field trip to Ft. Vancouver which was the first trading post established in the Northwest after Lewis & Clark made their pioneer trek to this area. The fort is on the north side of the Columbia River from Portland.

Behind us is the blacksmith's building.

This is the home of John McLoughlin, the "Father of Oregon".

Behind us is the Bastion.

The canons were there for defense, but never had to be used to that end. They fired them to welcome special guests to the fort.

Boys & canons.

Crazy 4th graders.
