Pacific Conference District Finals

Last weekend, Cassie competed in 3 high school swimming events at district championships in McMinnville, OR. She swam the 3rd leg of the 400 free relay. The relay team took 1st place! They also broke the NHS record set back in 1986 for that event. The new record time is 3:42.31 & Cassie is part of NHS swim history!

The relay champs! Meghan O'Halloran (junior), Alysha Bush (freshman), Catherine Mays (freshman), and Cassie....that's right! Three freshman! : )
Cassie took 5th place in the 100 backstroke. Nice rainbow towel!
And she took 6th place in the 100 freestyle.
Sorry for the low quality photos. I was using my iphone. I'll be sure to take the better camera tonight to state prelims!

6A swimming — NHS qualifies relay teams, individuals to compete Saturday in the state finals
McMINNVILLE — Relays dominated for NHS at the Pacific Conference district swim meet Friday and Saturday at the McMinnville Aquatic Center. The Tigers advanced four individual swimmers and several teams to the state championships at Mount Hood Community College this weekend. The Newberg girls relay team of Hannah Miller, Catherine Mays, Cassie Beecher, Alysha and Meghan O’Halloran broke Newberg records for the 200 and 400 freestyle relays (times were unavailable as of press time) as well as the 200 individual medley. The boys’ team of Craig and Brian Cheney, Taylor McMaster, Kale Rogers and Evan Taylor qualified to swim at state in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Craig Cheney swam to first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 free, in the process breaking a meet record he set a year ago in the 50 free. Rogers swam his best time ever in the 100 butterfly and finished fourth in the finals Saturday, good enough to earn him a spot at state.
Catherine Mays won the 100 breaststroke and Alysha Bush took second in the 50 free. Both girls advanced to state as well. Overall, the Newberg girls placed third in the district meet, the boys fourth.
A plethora of Newberg swimmers advanced to finals with strong showings Friday at the district meet: Matthew Weger, Jacob Petrie and Colton Saunders in the 200 free; Nick Mehler and Brendon Allen in the 200 IM; Christian Handen and Brian Cheney in the 50 free; Grant Aldred and Evan Taylor in the 100 fly; Matthew Eichton, Craig Cheney and Taylor McMaster in the 100 free; Aldred, Zachary Rierson, Craig Cheney and Weger in the 500 free; Miles McKenzie,Mehler and Taylor in the 100 back; Jacob Petrie, Allen and McMaster in the 100 breast. Girls making it past the prelims Friday were: Mandy VanCleave and O’Halloran in the 200 free; Kindra Fish and Miller in the 200 IM; Maggie Peterson, Anna Dolyniuk and Alexis Vargas in the 50 free; Miller for the 100 fly; VanCleave, Beecher and Savannah Youngquist in the 100 free; Danielle Austin in the 500 free; Eva Taeubel, Fish and Beecher in the 100 back; and Dolyniuk and Vargas in the 100 breast.
Me typing again...so, Cassie did not swim on the 200 relay team at district. Hannah Miller did. But, this week at practice, Cassie swam faster than Hannah and has taken her spot on the 200 freestyle relay team for state this weekend. Oh, the drama & excitement of swimming!
